Cecora - Homage to Stanislav Szukalski
~25x36"
Oil & Egg Tempera on Panel
2008
This painting is based on a bronze sculpture of the same name by the deceased Polish visionary sculptor, Stanislav Szukalski. It is the symbolic story of a warrior chief meeting his end as his blood mixes with his tears, being fed into his mouth by an angel.
In 2001 I had a powerful dream wherein Szukalski gave me a golden pocket watch as a birthday gift, after serenading me. I later acquired a bronze medallion from a postmortem exhibition that was a manifestation of the dream.
Szukalski was one of Poland's most celebrated artists until a vast majority of his work was destroyed in WWII. He eventually left Poland for the U.S., where he never truly regained his earlier greatness as a recognized master.
