Visionary Techniques & Traditional Methods

3 Day Painting Intensive
with Aloria Weaver & David Heskin

Dive into a stimulating atmosphere of pure creative potential! This 3 day workshop is a synthesis of technique and inspiration for artists of all levels.

We'll have a hands-on exploration of a spectrum of traditional and visionary oil painting processes, while translating these techniques into a unique means for personal expression.  With numerous demonstrations, presentations and opportunities for personalized instruction, our 2 painting projects will give us experience with direct and indirect painting methods, observing how dissimilar traditions utilize different strategies to achieve similar goals.

Each day consists of 2 instructional painting sessions plus an optional open studio session in the evening. Emphasis is given to the distinct stages of layered painting techniques and many methods by which painters achieve chromatic neutral tones.

By keeping our class sizes small, students are given more personalized instruction and are welcomed to bring questions related to their own works in addition to the scheduled curriculum. Returning students will build upon the elements that were introduced in other classes, while new students will gain a broad understanding of a diversity of painting materials and techniques. Comparing and contrasting historical approaches to a layered painting approach allows us do better develop our own practice guided by various traditions.

Most of the materials will be provided in the studio, but attendees are required to bring a certain few supplies with them.

Required Materials:
Two 11x14" 'Gessobord' panels
Brushes (see Resources page)
Oil Palette
Watercolor Palette
Sketchbook & Pencil
